Joanne Glenn Woodard is Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access at the University of North Texas (UNT), a role she has held since June 2016. In her capacity as Chief Diversity officer for UNT, Woodard oversees the university’s efforts to maintain a diverse welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff and to build new alliances and partnerships in the communities UNT serves. Woodard, a member of the president’s cabinet, coordinates the University’s diversity and inclusion strategic initiatives and advises senior UNT leadership on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion. Prior to joining UNT in 2015, Woodard served as Vice Provost for institutional Equity & Diversity at North Carolina State University for sixteen years.

Woodard received a bachelor’s degree in history from Winston-Salem State University, a master’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), and has completed doctoral studies in history at UNC. She also participated in UNC’s Bridges program, a certificate program focusing on academic leadership for women and the American Council on Education’s National Women’s Leadership Forum. She is a trained mediator, certified affirmative action professional, and NCBI facilitator.

Woodard is known for her work on faculty salary equity and the integration of multiculturalism and internationalization. While at NC State, Woodard participated in ACE’s “At Home in the World Program” along with colleagues from the university’s Office of International Affairs. Woodard’s collaborative and innovative work was partly responsible for the university being recognized with the “Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization.” She has served as the Convener for the North Carolina Diversity and Inclusion Partners, a statewide network of diversity and inclusion professionals. Woodard is a member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and a member of the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity.
