NADOHE Endorses the Dream and Promise Act of 2019

March 22 2019 – Fort Lauderdale, FL. – NADOHE announces its endorsement of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2019, recently introduced as legislation in the House of Representatives. The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 would provide an estimated 2.4 million unauthorized immigrants brought to the United States as children, also referred to as DREAMers, with a pathway toward lawful permanent residence and citizenship in the United States.

The legislation will also restore the ability of states to grant in-state tuition to DREAMers on the basis of residency, and allow them to be eligible for Title IV federal student aid programs.

These provisions support the goal of higher education attainment. H.R.6 would also restore protections to immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), including those who study and work at colleges and universities.

Supporting the educational aspirations of DREAMers is essential if the United States wishes to remain globally competitive. NADOHE urges speedy congressional action on H.R. 6 as an important step toward comprehensive immigration reform.
